I'll keep this blog entry short. After all, I have about 2,000 e-mails to get caught up on - people to get in communication with one-on-one. Relationships need attention and significant outcomes for me now run almost exclusively through others.
This morning, I woke up pondering my own efectiveness and the effectiveness of the world around me. Living in Richmond Hill, Ontario, Canada, I, and those around me, have it pretty darned good. We must be careful - having it pretty good should never become our goal. We can enjoy good, but we will always yearn for and be missing "great". Good to Great, by Jim Collins is a fantastic read. Although it is business-oriented, the lessons are directly relevant to our society as a whole and to all institutions of any kind.
So, this morning I did a search on "good to great, good is the enemy of great" and got the 2-minute Jim Collins video I will link below.
I run a good business - probably average to above average by most measures. But we will make it great.
I live in a good town, in a good province, in a good country. And I'd love to see each of these strive openly to be great.
Here's the link and I strongly recommend the book: http://www.jimcollins.com/media_topics/defining.html#audio=86 .
